Professional BACKGROUND
As an Executive Director of Newmark Knight Frank Smith Mack, Doug’s primary focus is leveraging his 10+ years of tenant representation experience working with commercial tenants and owners/occupants of real estate. Doug’s tenant representation engagements consist of expertly guiding his clients through each phase of the increasingly complicated commercial leasing process. From team assembly and site selection, through complex financial modeling and lease negotiations, Doug has a proven track record of excellence.
Prior to joining Newmark Knight Frank Smith Mack, Doug worked with Tactix Real Estate Advisors, where he played a crucial role in the representation of several high-profile law firms, including multiple leases for Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney, Fox Rothschild, and White and Williams, and the most recent office leases for the law firms of Benesch, Brodsky & Smith, and Smith Stratton. Doug has also employed his skills and expertise to assist clients in the legal nonprofit and public interest fields. By way of example, Doug was the lead member of the team that helped Community Legal Services and Philadelphia Legal Assistance, two non-profit firms providing legal assistance to low-income Philadelphians, secure long term leases in the City.
Although law firms have comprised a substantial portion of Doug’s practice, his work expands well beyond the legal arena, including an impressive array of clients from a diverse selection of industries. To name a few examples, Doug played a primary role in tenant representation assignments for Francis Cauffman Architects, Group Dynamics, the Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corporation and Hudson Marine Management Corporation. He also played a vital role in the acquisition of a new headquarters for the National Electrical Contractors Association, and was a key member of the team that structured an impressive 80,000 RSF national data center lease renewal for Sodexo, Inc.
Before pursuing a career as a commercial real estate broker, Doug was an associate in the real estate group at Montgomery McCracken, Walker & Rhoads where he focused on commercial, industrial and retail leasing, as well as construction and general real estate law. While he left the formal practice of law in 2001, it is clear from his client roster that Doug’s interests remain firmly entrenched in the Philadelphia legal community.
EDUCATION
Doug graduated from The Pennsylvania State University in 1994, and went on to receive his juris doctor, with Honors, from the George Washington University Law School in 1997. Following his graduation Doug clerked for the late J. Sydney Hoffman of the Pennsylvania Superior Court. In 1998, Doug joined the real estate department of Montgomery, McCracken, Walker & Rhoads.
